CANCELED: Healing What Grieves You: 2-day Workshop with Julie Lange Groth @ CILK119
Sep 9 @ 9:30 am – Sep 10 @ 3:00 pm

We are sorry for the inconvenience!

We hope to welcome Julie again soon.

Do you sometimes feel blocked, inexplicably weary, unable to make decisions or move forward in your life? You may be weighed down by unresolved grief. This unresolved grief, which almost everyone carries, can keep us stuck and unable to live our best life.

This workshop will help you identify where you may be carrying grief and work with it on a spiritual level to bring peace and healing in all areas of your life. Julie will offer her training in Native American and Shamanic healing to participants through ceremony with burning sage, cairns, and the four directions. Working within a circle of safety and openness, we will use guided meditation to the beat of a drum, time spent in nature, creative expression, and sharing to acknowledge and release what grieves us with intention and awareness.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring the following from home:

  • eyeshade or bandana
  • something on which to lie down or sit comfortably (i.e. blanket, pillow or beach chair)
  • notebook or journal
  • drums or rattles if you have them

Workshop will take place from 9:30am to 7:30pm on Saturday and 9:30am to 3pm on Sunday.

Julie Lange Groth is the author of two books: Healing What Grieves You: 4 Steps to a Peaceful Heart and Life Between Falls: A Travelogue Through Grief and the Unexpected. Both books spring from Julie’s own healing journey after the accidental death of her 16-year-old son in 1993 into a life of unexpected joy and richness. While her son’s death and several other profound losses within a two-year period stripped away all of the trappings of her previous life, her grieving process gradually evolved into a new life as a writer, shamanic practitioner and spiritual healer. Along the way she developed a set of simple, tried-and-true practices, meditations and ceremonies to help people who are grieving a deep loss. Visit her at ravensdrum.com.

A Sit Down with Spirit: Cancelled @ CILK119
Oct 14 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join Rita, acclaimed author, healer, and pyschic, and her “Spirit Crew” on a journey to the answers that you have been waiting for. This show promises to be filled with love, laughter, and a provocative tell-all about how to live your life authentically and abundantly. Plus a cameo appearance by Vincent and Olympia Gigante!

Rita Gigante, author of The Godfather’s Daughter: An Unlikely Story of Love, Healing, and Redemption, and daughter of the late mob boss Vincent “the Chin” Gigante, has dedicated her adult life to healing people spiritually, emotionally, and physically. She has a degree in Exercise Physiology and is a licensed massage therapist and Reiki master. Rita also has a private practice outside of New York City, where she serves clients using massage therapy, energy therapy, intuitive healing, spiritual counseling, sound therapy, and intuitive readings.

Rita specializes in spiritual guidance and helping others connect to their higher self for their own answers. Rita works directly with Source/Spirit, her higher self, intuition and a host of other energies such as Angels to do her work as a vehicle of the light. Combined with knowledge acquired through studying with reknown teachers such as Eamonn Downey and Jinny Johnson, and her life experiences, Rita strives to assist others in achieving health, balance, closure, and peace, as well as to discover their soul’s unlimited potential.

Rita’s journey, as a healer, began in her youth. She started studying Massage Therapy and graduated from the Swedish Institute in 1995. This work led Rita into opening up her psychic skills and gave her the practice she needed to become seasoned at her work. She then went on to earn her BS degree in Science with a concentration in Exercise Physiology from William Paterson University in 2001. As her interest and passion grew for learning further about the body, Rita began to move into teaching in the areas of Anatomy and Physiology, Massage techniques and Chakra Balancing. She taught for 5 years at the Institute for Therapeutic Massage in Pompton Lakes, NJ starting in 2003.

Rita cherishes the connections she has formed with her students and clients while relating her own experiences through spiritual guidance.  Her passion, over the past 12 years, has been concentrated on lecturing on topics such as Crossing Over, Chakras, Energy and Auras, Angels, and Dream Interpretation, etc.

Compelling Character Creation with Mario Leone @ CILK119
Nov 9 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Characters are the heart and soul of every story. It does not matter if it is nonfiction, or any kind of scripted screenplay or novel. In fact, character is the core essence of your story. We follow people like Indiana Jones, Hamlet, Katniss, Harry Potter, not because they’re fun characters, but because they deepen us and connect to the very fabric of who we are inside.

Feel the magic of this course as we bring people to life through our creative words. Here you will learn techniques and concepts for building and revealing functional characters that are just as multidimensional as your high school student or every day C.E.O.

Mario Leone, a produced and partially sighted screenwriter, will show you how to create compelling characters that your audience will connect with through this 2-hour course.

  •  We will uncover what drives your character.
  • We will profile your character.
  • We will use archetypes in a useful and functional way.
  • We will use creative tools such as habits, behaviors, and emotions.
  • We will stack psychology onto your character. We will create experiences for your character.

This event benefits River River Writers’ Circle. Donations of any amount welcome.

Screenwriter Mario Leone is from New York, the skyscraper capital of the world. He is the son of traditional Italian suburbanites and finds solace in his apartment where he slaves away at his keyboard writing film screenplays. The feature-length horror film Apollyon, produced from Mario’s screenplay, features Adriana De Moura of The Real Houseswives of Miami.

“Digital storytelling takes the ancient art of personal storytelling and uses movie-making software to make a story come alive with images, music, and sound mixed together with the author’s own story voice.”

—Adapted from Jason Ohler, 2010

“Digital Storytelling supports people in sharing and bearing witness to stories that lead to learning, action, and positive change…The more we search for authenticity, the more we turn our attention away from the siren call of bland uniformity, and we search for something individuated…our stories.  The ways to hear those stories is …to listen to our own stories, our own hearts and the stories of our rich, local communities…”

From Digital Storytelling: Capturing Lies, Creating Community by Joe Lambert (Berkeley, CA: Digital Diner Press, 2009)
